When the Kingsmen had their big hit, "Louie, Louie" and began to tour nationwide in larger venues, they realized they did not have the power they needed on stage. Their bass man, Norm Sundholm and his brother, Conrad, solved their immediate needs in 1964 in their garage producing the first high powered concert bass amplifier. In short order, the Sunn Musical Instrument Company was underway producing their great line of amps.
Sunn Amps were used by The Who, The Moody Blues, Velvet Underground, Cream, Steppenwolf,Kiss, Rush, Queen, and the The jimi Hendrix Experience, among others. Eventually, Sunn was acquired by Fender and they stopped production in 2002.
This is an original 400 watt Sunn Solarus Combo, amp and cabinet and it sounds great.
About Shipping: Amps are not good travellers. They are subject to temperature changes and the rough treatment involved in shipment. Vintage amps wtih tubes are particularly sensitive. Before I sell a vintage or used amp or cabinet, I check it out electronically to be sure it is working well. I would like to see that it arrives to you in the same condition. I cannot be responsible for the treatment it receives in transit. It is my preference that the buyer pick up the amp locally. We will deliver within 200 miles of 24153 for a fee based on mileage. For local pickup, we are only a few miles from Interstate 81 in Virginia which is a main route from the NE to Nashville, Charlotte, D.C, etc. I am sure we can work out delivery.
