Appraisal

I find appraisals are needed for a number of reasons. I do appraisals for individuals, for estates, for insurance agencies, and for auctions houses. I enjoy providing the history behind the instruments along with the current market value when I do an appraisal. The most definitive appraisals can be done when I have the instrument in my possession. We cannot do that on all occasions. I will require a number of pictures, a complete description to include the current condition of the instrument before I can begin.

I offer two types of appraisals. An appraisal based on the information and photos provided by the owner is a Basic Appraisal of Value. It does require the owner to provide detailed information about the instrument as listed below. The appraisal will state that it did not include a personal inspection of the instrument. If this Basic Appraisal will meet your needs, the cost is $60.00 and will include a copy sent to you by email and a copy on our letterhead sent by USPS. Because some instruments cannot be adequately appraised without a personal inspection, I reserve the right to decline an Basic Appraisal of Value request.

A Complete Appraisal of Value will require that I have the instrument in hand for personal inspection. This will require that you deliver it to my shop or ship it to me. A Complete Appraisal of Value will include a detailed appraisal of the instrument to include, but not limited to its current condition, any repairs that may be needed, any changes from its original condition, its marketability, and an overview of the instrument’s history. This will be delivered by USPS to the owner and can be used for insurance purposes, estate valuation, or other similar needs. A Complete Appraisal of Value will cost $125.00 plus return shipping for the instrument.

I do buy and consign vintage instruments. If the owner decides to sell the instrument to Blue Note or decides to consign it with me, I will refund the cost of the appraisal at the time of sale.

The first step will be for you to call me at 540 389 6666 or E-mail me with your appraisal needs. No two instrument appraisals are alike so we need to decide on the best approach. I look forward to talking with you.
